Brown Family Reunion Site
Terms of Use & Privacy
Last updated: May 8, 2026
This document covers the terms of using this website ("the Site"), how we handle information, and what is and isn't allowed. By using the Site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
1. About this Site
The Site is a private, non-commercial resource maintained by family member volunteers to help the Brown family stay connected and coordinate reunions. It is not a business, is not operated for profit, and is not affiliated with any commercial entity. We do not sell anything through the Site, do not run advertising, and do not monetize user data.
2. Who can use the Site
The Site is intended for adult members and friends of the Brown family. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
3. Information about children
Adults often add children to the family directory or family tree (for example, listing a child's name, birthday, and parents). When you add information about a child, you confirm you are the child's parent or guardian, or you have permission from one. We collect only what you choose to enter. A parent or guardian can ask us to remove a child's information at any time.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If we learn we have, we will delete it.
4. What we collect and why
We collect only what is needed for the Site to work and for the family to coordinate:
- Account information you provide (name, email, optional phone)
- Directory and family-tree information you add about yourself or relatives (addresses, birthdays, photos, biographies, stories)
- RSVPs and event responses
- Messages and edit suggestions you submit
- Basic technical data needed to operate and protect the Site (IP address, browser type, timestamps)
- Authentication cookies that keep you signed in
We use this information to operate the Site, coordinate the reunion, send relevant emails to people who have signed up for them, authenticate users, and protect the Site from abuse.
We do not sell your information, do not use it for advertising, and do not share it with third parties for their marketing purposes.
We share information only:
- With other approved family members on the Site (the directory, family tree, and RSVPs are visible to signed-in family)
- With the service providers who host and operate the Site for us (currently Cloudflare and Supabase)
- When required by law or valid legal process
- To protect the safety of the Site or its users
The Site is operated from and stores data in the United States.
5. Cookies
We use cookies only as needed for the Site to work — primarily to keep you signed in and to protect the Site from malicious traffic. We do not use cookies for advertising or for tracking you across other websites. Disabling cookies in your browser will likely break the ability to sign in.
6. Your choices
You can update your profile at any time, unsubscribe from non-essential emails using the link in those emails, and request deletion of your account by contacting us. If your information appears in the family directory or tree and you did not enter it yourself, you can ask us to update or remove it.
7. What you cannot do
When using the Site, you agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, bully, or intimidate other users
- Post content that is hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or that targets or sexualizes minors
- Use the directory or family tree to contact relatives for commercial purposes (sales pitches, fundraising for non-family causes, political solicitation, and so on)
- Export or share family information outside the Site without permission
- Post inaccurate or malicious information about real people
- Impersonate someone else, living or deceased
- Post content that violates copyright, trademark, or other rights
- Use the Site for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to attack, scrape, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the Site
We may remove content, suspend accounts, or permanently remove users who violate these terms.
8. Content you post
You keep ownership of the content you post. By posting it, you give us permission to host and display it on the Site for as long as it remains posted. You confirm you have the right to post it and that it does not violate anyone else's rights.
When you post information about other people, especially relatives in the family tree, only share what you genuinely believe they would be comfortable having shared within the family. Do not include sensitive information (health, finances, legal matters, immigration status) without their permission. If a person asks for their information to be removed, we will remove it.
9. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on the Site infringes your copyright, send a notice to admin@browndynasty.org including:
- Identification of the work you claim is infringed
- Identification of the material on the Site you want removed, including the URL
- Your contact information
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorized
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and you are authorized to act for the copyright owner
- Your physical or electronic signature
We will respond to valid notices in accordance with applicable law.
10. The Site is provided as-is
The Site is a free, volunteer-run resource for the family. We do our best to keep it working, but we make no guarantees that it will be available, secure, or free of errors. We provide the Site without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operators of the Site are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site, and total liability for any claim is limited to one hundred dollars ($100).
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of the Site will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in North Carolina.
12. Changes
We may update these terms when needed. The "Last updated" date will reflect any change. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the updated terms. Material changes will be announced on the Site.
